Spiritual Truths for Wealth Accumulation Introduction
Basics for accumulating wealth
In all honesty, you probably already know the basics of what it takes to accumulate wealth. It is fairly simple:
- Generate a decent income
- Spend less than you make
- Invest the surplus
Simple, right? So the question is not…
“How do I accumulate wealth?“
but rather…
“Why does it seem like I can’t accumulate wealth?“
The answer relates to the spiritual realm as it concerns our finances. There is a force at work to keep God’s people in bondage by creating a cycle of wealth lack. It is the spiritual truth of God’s word and His promises that will free you from such bondage.
The world, through Satan’s deception, wants to keep us relying on its system— a clear form of bondage. Satan wants us to stay unknowingly bound to this system operating as slaves within it. If you don’t believe this, ask yourself why the government is so anxious to send us “free” money to “stimulate” the economy in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
- REASON 1: First off, it’s not exactly free. The government is taking out a huge loan to give away these trillions of dollars. The government pays its loans/bills through taxes. Who pays taxes?!?
- REASON 2: Remember on cartoons when a rider would dangle a carrot in front of the donkey’s face to keep him working for the rider’s benefit? The donkey just wants a bite of the carrot but the rider is using the donkey’s desire against it to benefit himself. Even if the donkey were to eventually get a bite of carrot, who has really benefitted the most? This “free” money from the government is functioning the same way. Unfortunately, we are not the rider.
So back to answering why we can’t seem to accumulate wealth…
The reason we can’t implement the very simple formula for accumulating wealth—generate income, spend less than you make, invest the surplus—is because we are operating in the world’s systems as slaves rather than operating in God’s system as heirs of His promises.
How do we become free?
Becoming free begins with a simple, quality spiritual decision. You must decide that you will no longer be a slave to the world’s system and that you are going to take your position as an heir of God’s promises rightfully granted to you through Jesus Christ (Romans 8:15-17). This decision goes beyond just financial freedom. It gets very deep and you have to take this emancipation process one step at a time, but it truly starts with this simple decision. If you are ready to commit to this decision, then stay tuned for next week’s post as I share with you how to take another step in this newly found spiritual truth.
But what if I’m not ready for this decision?
This is why the body of Christ struggles so hard in the area of finances. It seems too hard to take this initial step. Satan wants us to feel this way so that we fail to take this step—the step that frees us from bondage and gives us immediate access to God’s promises. Why? It deals with something called a “vicious cycle”. A vicious cycle is a series of negative or unfavorable events or circumstances where the occurrence of those events continues to cause subsequent negative events and circumstances, thereby compounding the negative results in a continual cycle.
Consider the example where a teenage child is forced to work to help make ends meet for his mother and siblings, so he drops out of school to work full time. Without a high school diploma, his salary is greatly limited for the rest of his life compared to his peers. Now , as an adult with kids, he also lives paycheck to paycheck and develops bad habits to cope with the struggles and stresses of life like drinking and smoking. Because of the habits, he develops health issues at an early age and now has thousands of dollars worth of medical bills. His teenage kids feel compelled to make the same decision he made, continuing the cycle.
Accumulating wealth is important—not just for you, but for your future generations. When we have no inheritance to leave our children, instead of having a head start, they start out “in the hole”. The world’s system is designed to keep them there. So the bondage goes from generation to generation. This is the plan of satan. Your decision today means you break the cycle of wealth lack for yourself and your family—for your children and for their children.
If the reality of this truth is not enough to help you make the quality decision, then pray for more understanding of the impact your decision today can have for your generations to come.
